Copa
Airlines: CM New DOT Regulation
The U.S. Department of Transportation
(DOT) issued a regulation requiring airlines to offer refunds to
passengers for additional services that were paid for, but not honored.
The regulation will be implemented for flights beginning October 28,
2024.
The
regulation applies to additional services for which passengers paid
for, but did not receive, such as:
- Pre-selection of
Economy Cabin seats.
- Upgrades to Business
Class.
- Checked baggage at
additional: Extra checked baggage (paid for at WCI and at the
airport), overweight baggage, oversized baggage, sporting goods
and musical instruments.
- Other additional
services: Pets in Cabin, Copa Club Tickets and Unaccompanied Minor
Service.
When
does the refund apply?
- If the airline is
unable to fulfill any of these paid services, for reasons beyond
the passenger's responsibility, passengers are entitled to a
refund. Refunds will be automatically executed by the airline
based on the travel information, where a comparison will be made
between the paid services and what was granted on the day of the
flight.
